Duy will provide insights into the economic outlook for Oregon and the Portland metro region, highlighting the trends and forces shaping our region’s economic future.

Following the presentation by Tim Duy, the program will continue with a discussion on the State of Trade in Oregon and beyond, featuring two distinguished guests from our trading partners in Canada and Mexico:

• Craig Weichel, Consul General of Canada to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska
• Carlos Quesnel Meléndez, Consul of Mexico in Portland
• Moderated by Sophorn Cheang, Director, Business Oregon

This timely conversation will examine the role of international trade in driving regional economic growth, the future of North American trade relationships, and the implications for Oregon’s business community. A cornerstone of the regional and state economy is trade; and the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA), or Canada United States, Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), or Tratado entre Mexico, Estates Unidos y Canada (T-MEC), is an impactful trade policy for our state. In July of 2026, the U.S. government did not elect to renew the agreement in its current form. As a result, the three governments will be jointly reviewing the agreement, or it will expire in 2036.
